Unexpected Part 02

Over here I'll be addressing the unexpected artworks I developed from my seemingly failed fashion photoshoot. It became more about the concept this time round.

I like the paradoxical title :)

The blue reflected reminds one of a sea and an ethereal place. The existent body interacts with the seemingly non-existent body (reflection). There is connection, even within and with oneself. Even amidst the coolness and relaxed (sometimes even still) feel of the series, the physical connection of body and reflection bring an imagined spark and life, as if crossing the boundaries between physical and imagined realm. 

The reflection takes on the original role of the body and the body takes on the role of reflection; a switching of realms.

I love these images, contemplative and surreal. (BTW GUYS ZERO PHOTOSHOP, only used iphoto for colour editing)

Unexpected beauty.

Oh yes but one more thing, I was thinking kinda like about how one of these images would do as a book cover :/ thinking haha sounds cool

Ignore the weird hair haha but i was thinking along the lines of twin sisters who were separated at birth but somehow one of them finds out about a pledge made by their parents with someone concerning the separation of the twins. The pledge eventually brings them together. Would be kinda cool i think :D

Unexpected Part 01

So today I started out with hoping to do a modelled fashion shoot and everything but self-timing every shot was just tedious and gradually I started to think it was a definite failed shoot, but I persisted in making more shots, and unexpectedly I came up with two photography series, and also some experimental artistic shots.

The first series: All in the Snap of a Finger, Jubilee Tai, Photography 2012

I really like the way the figure has been captured in a whir, visible, yet not visible, opening up the photograph to interpretation. 

Also, the title of the series - All in the Snap of a Finger - highlights the way human decisions can change things drastically. For shot I, it shows how a leap of faith can sometimes be spur of the moment, where one throws off all hesitance and worries. It is quick and unpredictable, just like in the snap of a finger. For shot II, even a fall from grace is easily possible at any juncture. Quick and unpredictable, just like in the snap of a finger. 

Bird of Unparadise

Birds are indicators of the environment. If they are in trouble, we know we'll soon be in trouble.  - Roger Tory Peterson

Man has displayed it's unappreciation for nature, and it's being manifested in the very place we call our home; where we once had luscious forests we now see barren, cold land, where the water flowed and played in the sun to sparkle we now see unclear, clouded, dead water bodies. It is - and should be - of much concern to most in the world, and we've yet to truly be taking action. Even in the fashion world, pervasive to all mankind in the 21st century, so much more can still be done to change our environment. 

In this photography series 'Bird of Unparadise', it basically places a pun on the plant named Bird of Paradise as well as the subject matter aimed at being a representation of a bird. The bird has truly turned into a representative subject matter of nature itself, placing the idea of a dying and struggling environment in a new perspective - artistically and visually. Feast your eyes on the (un)paradise!

This is the bird at the very beginning: determined and like a silent watcher from the trees, fully aware of its surroundings. It is undisturbed yet on guard.

It senses a change - trees being felled and it's home (no, our home) is being destroyed. It spreads its wings, displaying itself from beyond the shadows of the fallen branches.

It mourns for its home. A white cloth draped over as if a funeral is being held.
The body looks like it is supposed to be part of the tree of which the branch had once been part of, but rather no, it is part of the tree itself as a bird.

Angered by its helplessness and Man's tactlessness, it ruffles its feathers in fury.

It wants to escape the predicament set ahead of it by another's irresponsibility, yet it faces confinement for it has nowhere to go to. 

It's home has already been broken.

Yup so that's the end for this photography series, but wait! I have a few artistic shots captured from the rest of the shoot as well which I filtered out initially from the final piece.

I actually think it's(below) quite Vogue worthy :)))

Kyle Thompson Photography

His photography is inspiring and amazing as a surrealist photographer. It really makes me interested in what I can do while I try out fashion photography... Still exploring possibilities.

Cheers to Banksy

So we've been on the art trip and all, but sure that's galleries and museums of things to talk about, however we were also exposed to street art in London, and it was not until I returned that my friend happened to introduce to me a prominent street artist - Banksy. Banksy works really creatively and humorously, and I think he really has a rather original flow of ideas as well! Check out his website at http://banksy.co.uk/! Currently still looking for his trademark though. Some other artists used trademarks like a yellow peg or graffiti teeth :)
